Here are some fun facts about the Chrismas holiday:
- Jingle Bells was originally written as a song for Thansgiving. It later became a very popular Christmas song.
- If you actually received all of the gifts named in the song “The 12 Days of Christmas” you would receive a total of 364 gifts!
- Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was originally created in the late 1930’s by Montgomery Ward as a marketing promotion for the holiday season.
- The word Christmas is an old English word, a contraction of Christ’s Mass.
- Franklin Pierce was the first US President to decorate the White House Christmas tree.
- Alabama was the first US state to officially recognize Christmas as a holiday.
- Christmas was declared a national holiday in the US on June 26, 1870.
- In Greek the “X” means Christ, that is how the word X-Mas was derived.
- In Mexico, wearing red underwear on New Year’s Eve is said to bring love in the new year.
